Marbella Roof Terrace

The challenge

An aged residential roof terrace at a holiday home in Marbella had begun to leak, with water ingress affecting the interior of the property. The existing terrace was finished with terracotta tiles and needed a waterproofing solution capable of long-term protection in the demanding Spanish climate.

With summer temperatures in Marbella regularly reaching around 32°C, and application temperatures potentially much higher, the system had to give installers enough working time in hot conditions without compromising the quality of the finished membrane.

The solution

Marbella Roofing selected FLEXITEC HT, the RESTEC IRR white resin system developed for application in higher temperatures. FLEXITEC HT gives installers an extended working time in hot conditions and can be applied at up to 45°C, which made it well suited to the climate and application conditions in Marbella.

The terracotta tiles were thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry, then prepared with FLEXITEC Primer. A base coat of FLEXITEC HT was applied with fibreglass reinforcement fully embedded into the wet resin, creating a continuous, reinforced waterproofing membrane across the terrace. Once the reinforced base layer had cured, a further coat of FLEXITEC HT completed the membrane.

The result

For a hard-wearing walking surface, RESGRIP was applied in Window Grey. The anti-slip MMA finish adds surface protection and gives a practical, attractive finish for a residential roof terrace, and a final sealer coat protects the finished surface.

The terrace now has a seamless, reinforced waterproofing system protecting against water ingress. Together, FLEXITEC HT and RESGRIP turned an aged terrace into a durable, low-maintenance surface with a clean finish that complements the property.

The project is also a milestone: the first RESTEC project completed in Spain, delivered in partnership with Marbella Roofing, who look forward to delivering further waterproofing solutions across the Spanish market with RESTEC.
